Can I simply say what a comfort to find somebody that really understands what they're talking about online. You actually realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people need to read this and understand this side of your story. It's surprising you are not more popular since you definitely possess the gift.

Making native americans cut their hair seems to go against their religous beliefs - I can't imagine why a Tribe would mandate this invasive, insensitive procedure.

The "referant" groups are-indigenous survivors. The Chikamagua are historically well known and documented by many. The Chickamagua in the main, encompassed varied and various individuals and families of conservative minded Indigenous from a number of "Tribes" ; such as Cherokee, Shawnee, TsoYaha Uchee [aka Uchi], and, more. Under a staunch conservative leadership of such men as Dragging Canoe, Tahlontuseegee, Tahchee, White Path, the Bowl, Mush, and many others, they all were allied within a greater Indigenous western alliance encompassing all Indigenous of the greater Ohio Valley. An alliance later led by Pucksinwas son, Tecumseh.
As to the Uchee and Mingo, one cannot review any "Cherokee" record without also seeing the neighboring presceance of both those Indigenous bodies.
From early Spanish account, [DeSoto & Juan Pardo] 1556 1560s, to the later works of Jefferson, Heckwelder, Lawson -Edwrads and more all- the record of remnant Indigenous many of whom resided and reside within present Tennessee is not only abundant but painfully clear.
"The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoima Incorporated" is nothing, if not true to its true roots, that of a nefarious and unholy nexus[nexus from the latin-nectare-to bind]. Itself born of an unholy British womb circa 1722 to 1730.at Charlestown S. C.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee funds and operates their own Social Services division (as well as participating in the State-funded Social Services program) so I don't know that your statement about this Tribe being the first Tribe to operate their own program is accurate.
